Propane prices by state
Residential propane price per gallon from the EIA's weekly survey, week of 2026-10-19. The U.S. average is $2.69, against $2.42 a year ago. These are delivered-propane prices for home tanks; a cylinder refill at a station is priced separately, and stations rarely publish it.
The EIA does not survey Alaska, Arizona, California, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, South Carolina, Washington, West Virginia, Wyoming. For those states the regional or national average is the closest public figure.
What a cylinder refill costs
Stations price refills by the gallon or as a flat fee per 20 lb tank. The per-gallon rate at a fill station is normally above the delivered residential price in the table, because the station fills small volumes by hand. Exchange cages charge a flat swap price for about 15 lb. If you pay for a refill, report the price; reader prices appear on a state's page once three or more have come in within 90 days.
