How propane refill works at Tractor Supply

Updated October 24, 2026

Tractor Supply Co. sells propane refill as a service at its stores, which puts a fill station in many small towns that have no U-Haul or dealer. The chain has about 2,500 stores; the finder lists each one as a refill location based on the chain-wide service, not on a store-by-store check, so call before a long drive.

What they fill

Tractor Supply also sells tanks outright and carries exchange tanks in a cage near the entrance, so a store can handle both a refill and an exchange.

How it works

  1. Bring the tank to the register or the service desk and ask for a fill.
  2. A team member checks the date stamp and valve and fills the tank outside at the pump by weight.
  3. Pay inside for the gallons dispensed. The per-gallon price is set by the store and is posted at the pump.

When to call ahead

Filling needs a trained team member. Early morning, late evening and Sunday staffing varies, and a few stores suspend refills in bad weather. The phone number on each station row reaches the store directly.

Hours

Most stores are open 8 am to 9 pm Monday through Saturday and 9 am to 7 pm Sunday. Hours on each row come from the store’s own listing. Refills end before closing.

Tanks they turn away

The same rules as any fill station: no tanks past their requalification date, no tanks without an OPD valve, no damaged tanks. Those can be swapped at the exchange cage instead. The refill or exchange guide covers the price difference.

Finding one

Search your ZIP in the station finder. Tractor Supply stores appear with the brand name, a “Refill” label and an “Exchange” label on the same row.
